Very few people know they need a brow lift. Why? One of the earliest and most common symptoms of a drooping brow is sagging eyelids. So, very naturally, most people think that the problem is with their eyes. As we age, gravity tugs at the underlying muscles of our eyes and forehead. Over the years, our muscles also lose elasticity, which results in a sagging brow and eyelids. Dr. Alan Brackup, a double board-certified cosmetic surgeon and ophthalmologist, performs an endoscopic brow lift to correct a drooping brow and forehead instead of the traditional "coronal" brow lift. Some indications that you may benefit from a brow lift include a sagging forehead, brows that hang close to or over the eyes, and deep, vertical furrows between the brows. For people in the early stages of aging or who have moderate loss of elasticity in the forehead and eyebrows, they can be repositioned using small incisions in the hairline with an endoscopic brow lift. The endoscopic approach at Cosmetic Surgery Specialists in Langhorne, Bucks County, PA has the advantage of minimizing scalp scars and decreasing numbness in the central upper scalp, which can be problems commonly associated with the traditional approach to the brow lift.
"My search was over after being referred to Dr. Brackup!!!. My son's wedding was coming up in August, 2016. My eyes were horrible .When I smiled you saw know eye's. I met one surgeon that was scared to remove the lower bags. How would that look? Didn't make sense. With Time running out by chance I when to a new hairdresser, that had her eyes done and look beautiful. Even though Dr. had a busy schedule,he made it a point to fit me in for June 28th. I was assured my eye's would look beautiful by August 20th. Dr. Brackup was right. I had Upper and lower procedures done. Dr. sculpted my eyes to compliment my high cheek bones. They are beautiful. At 60 years old I look twenty years younger!! Dr. Brackup and his entire staff were kind and honestly the best experience I ever had. He is gifted with hands of gold. He only works from the neck up and is a oculoplastic surgeon. My confident's is through the roof. I walk with my head high for the first time in a very long time. "I was unhappy with the sagging skin on my neck and face and had been looking for a solution for a long time. I was reluctant to go "under the knife" -- it just seemed so frightening. I also struggled with the stigma surrounding a face lift. But then I met Dr Brackup and his nurse Michele. They both have a way of making you feel comfortable and cared for. Dr Brackup listened to my concerns and assured me he could give me the results I was looking for. He kept telling me ...how happy I would be. I felt immediate trust. Michele is a gem, and always there to answer questions or address concerns."- M.W. / Facebook / Jan 10, 2018

The incision techniques used during a brow lift procedure depend on the severity of sagging, the skin condition and the hairline location. A less invasive treatment is possible with an endoscopic brow lift.
Endoscopic Brow Lift
The endoscopic brow lift corrects a drooping brow and forehead and has largely replaced the traditional “coronal” brow lift. Some indications that you may benefit from a brow lift includes a sagging forehead, brows that hang close to or over the eyes, and deep, vertical furrows between the brows.
For people with early stage or moderate loss of elasticity of the forehead and eyebrows, they can be repositioned using small incisions back in the hairline and an endoscope. The endoscopic approach has the advantage of minimizing scalp scars and decreasing numbness in the central upper scalp, which can be problems commonly associated with the traditional approach to the brow lift.
A brow lift is performed under sedation at an accredited surgical facility. It can last between 1 – 2 hours. Patients are sent home after surgery and advised to limit movement for up to 2 days. There will be some bruising and swelling that may be present on other areas of the face, such as the cheeks. Patients will be able to go back to a normal routine within a week. Strenuous activities must be avoided as it may affect healing. It is quite normal to feel as though the face is out of symmetry, but within 3 – 6 months, patients will see the optimized results, and look and feel younger with a rejuvenated outcome.
Plan Your Procedure
- Procedure Recovery Location
The ultimate aim for a brow lift procedure is to give the face an appearance that is fresh and youthful. With this surgery, the surgeon is an expert who ensures that results are subtle enough so that it doesn’t look surgically treated. An experienced facial surgeon will have a thorough understanding of the internal structure of the face and will create results that are natural and prevent a wide-eyed or hyper-alert look.
Is Botox® A Better Option?
BOTOX® is a nonsurgical cosmetic treatment that targets forehead wrinkles. While it does an exceptional job of smoothing out lines and wrinkles on the forehad and around the eyes, it does not correct drooping of the skin folds around the eyes. Depending on the patient’s case, BOTOX is worth trying initially to see if this treatment satisfies the patient’s aesthetic goals. If BOTOX does little to the cosmetic issue, then a brow lift may be considered. Many patients benefit from a combination approach using surgery and BOTOX to attain the desired outcome.
Because the incisions are made in areas that can act as concealer, often the hair or natural crease of the face, scarring is generally not obvious. The doctor will make sure that the incisions are carefully placed to minimize the effects of scarring.
Brow Lift FAQs
Facelift vs Brow Lift?
The surgeon will initially evaluate the problem areas on the face and recommend the best approach. A brow lift enhancement is confined within the upper area of the face while a facelift also improves the appearance of the lower area of the face including the chin and the cheeks. Depending on the severity of the wrinkles and the sagging, a full facelift may be a better approach.
