Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)Despite diet and exercise, the goal of a flat and toned tummy may not be fully realized. Normal changes associated with aging, pregnancy, and significant weight loss can all affect the contour of the abdomen, and can produce an excess of loose skin, fatty tissue, and weakened muscles. A tummy tuck involves removal of this excess skin and fat along with tightening of the lax muscles. Frequently liposuction is used at the same time to achieve a better overall shape. We minimize post-operative discomfort by using a temporary catheter that bathes the surgical area in local anesthetic, and which is then easily removed a few days after the surgery. Good candidates for this procedure are at a stable weight, and smoking is strongly discouraged. Surgical options include the traditional full abdominoplasty or the less invasive "mini- tummy tuck." Our approach is individualized to each patient, based on her or his body and goals. Each patient wears a fitted compression garment covering the lower torso during the recovery period. The ON-Q® Pain PumpWe use the ON-Q® PainBuster® for most tummy tucks. This treats the discomfort normally associated with the surgery, by bathing the site in local anesthetic medication through two tiny catheters the size of epidurals. The medication lasts about three days, and then the catheters are removed painlessly. In our experience, patients who use the ON-Q® have less pain and take less narcotic pain medication by mouth. What this means for you is a faster and more comfortable recovery. Click here to see our tummy tuck Picture Gallery. For more information contact us. |
