Male Breast Surgery

Gynecomastia (Male Breast Surgery)

Gynecomastia is a common condition affecting men of all ages.  It is an excessive development of glandular or fatty tissue (or both) of the male breast and may be the result of heredity, hormones, certain diseases, or medications.  Regardless of its cause, many men seek treatment because of feelings of self-consciousness or social discomfort.

Surgical options for gynecomastia begin with liposuction of the affected area.  However, it is frequently necessary to combine it with surgical excision of excess tissue to achieve optimal results.  This procedure is performed on an outpatient basis.  Following the procedure, patients wear a fitted post-operative garment (vest) and must refrain from vigorous activity during the recovery period.  Most men are able to return to exercise by four weeks.
