Botox, Restylane, and other fillers

Botox®, Restylane®, and Other Fillers

Not everyone is ready for, or even needs, a surgical procedure.  The most commonly performed procedures at Cosmetic Surgery Specialists are “lunchtime” injections of Botox® and fillers to soften the appearance of aging.  Using this combination, we can dramatically improve a patient’s appearance, allowing you to return to work and activities immediately. The immediate gratification of a filler injection such as Restylane is often the “pick-me-up” needed to remove years from your appearance.

Botox®

Botox® injections are the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures in the world.  Why?  Because it works extraordinarily well, with a remarkable safety profile.  There has never been a permanent side effect or complication with Botox® injection.  It works by temporarily paralyzing the facial muscles which cause wrinkles or lines.  There is no single "cookbook" formula for Botox® injection, and we address each patient individually.  The artistry of this treatment comes with the knowledge and skill of placing the right doses in precise locations to achieve your desired effect.

Dr. Brackup has been performing Botox® in Bucks County for over 15 years, and he performs among the most procedures in southeastern Pennsylvania.  Dr. Brackup is a member of the National Educational Faculty, with doctors coming to observe his injection techniques.  He continues to deliver expert lectures across the country on this topic.

Dermal Fillers

This is one of the most exciting advancements in the field of non-invasive facial enhancement.  Fillers are used to plump the skin, filling in wrinkles and folds that develop with age.  There are certain lines, primarily those of the mid and lower face, that cannot be treated with Botox®.  For these areas, we use dermal fillers to restore a youthful three-dimensional shape.

Restylane® injection has revolutionized the use of fillers, a market previously dominated by collagen.  Whereas collagen was processed from the skin of cows, Restylane® is a highly purified sugar gel, hyaluronic acid, which is identical across all animal species.   This sugar is present naturally in our bodies, and is therefore well tolerated.  There are many advantages to this.  Unlike collagen, there is an extremely low risk of allergic reaction, so low in fact that we do not need to perform a skin test.  It lasts about 6 months,  significantly longer than the results we saw with collagen treatment.  Patients are enthusiastic about these results – immediate improvement with no downtime.  Just like with Botox®, Dr. Brackup routinely performs among the most Restylane® procedures in southeastern Pennsylvania.

There are a number of other filler substances currently available as well.  At Cosmetic Surgery Specialists, we have resisted the temptation to adopt a new product until the safety profile is well established.  At the time of your consultation we can discuss the pros and cons of the the multiple products currently available.  Some of the other fillers we commonly use include Perlane®, Juvéderm™, Sculptra™, and Radiesse™.

What is a Liquid Face Lift?

A liquid face lift is a minimally invasive procedure which retores the three dimensional contours of the face. These advanced techniques utilize the "filler" products outlined here to fill in volume where it has been lost due to the aging process. These procedures are performed under local anesthesia in the office - no trip to the operating room is necessary. What's more, the incisions of a traditional face lift (and thus, the scars) are completely avoided.

Since all of the filler materials we use are eventually absorbed by the body, the results are not permanent. However, significant and lasting results are possible. Everybody's face and everybody's goals are different, which is why we approach each patient individually. There is no single product which is always right for every person in every area. With our expertise in this field, we take our time to explain which approach and combinations we think will work best for you.
